Sam McIver RVN

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Sam qualified as an veterinary nurse in summer 2025 having been in general practice since 2021. She still works part time in general practice in Newport as she refines her nursing skills and has been enjoying expanding her exotic nursing knowledge since joining the team. Sam particularly enjoys the reptile exotics and is developing her skills daily in her anaesthesia of exotics with her favourite being a chameleon anaesthetic so far!

Sam always wanted to work with animals since her first job at Cefn Mably Farm Park. She graduated from the University of Liverpool with a BCS in Zoology in 2019. She has volunteered with animal conservation in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Costa Rica and Belize, and even got to travel to Uganda during her university studies and saw Chimps in the wild.

Sam's favourite animal is a sloth (although we don't see many here). Sam gained her love for sloths during her first visit to Costa Rica. After her university studies, Sam returned to Costa Rica to work at a rescue centre nursing orphaned or injured wildlife, where she also found a love of opossums.

Outside of work Sam enjoys getting out in nature with her dog Benji, or relaxing with her cat Winnie (who she rescued through her other work and was only supposed to be staying a weekend 2 years ago!) She enjoys indoor climbing, yoga and getting out on her motorbike
