Frequently Asked Questions
What species do you treat?
Our team have a special interest in cats and exotic animals and can treat almost any animal that can fit through our door, from African Sulcata's to Zebra Finches.
In rare circumstances, we may refer you to an alternative vet if we feel their expertise may benefit your pet more.
What should I expect when I visit Origin Vets Clinic?
When you arrive for your first appointment a member of our team will ask you a few questions about your pet's husbandry, such as their diet, housing, and general care. We'll then guide you to the appropriate waiting room based on your pet's species.
During the consultation, one of our experienced vets will carry out a full health check of your pet and discuss any concerns or questions you may have. We'll explain our findings, recommend any treatment if needed, and make sure you leave with a clear understanding of your pet's health and care.
Do you have parking?
Yes, we have several allocated parking spots outside the practice. Please park in any bay marked with the number 13.
If a space isn't available please chat to our reception team and they can advise you on where to park.
Can you microchip my pet?
We can microchip most birds, reptiles, and mammals.
We strongly recommend microchipping as it provides a permanent form of identification for your pet and greatly increases the chances of being reunited if they are lost.
Depending on your pet's species, size, and temperament, a short sedation may be recommended to allow the microchip to be implanted safely and with as little stress as possible.
If you're unsure whether your pet can be microchipped, our team will be happy to advise you.
Do you treat dogs?
No, we do not treat or allow dogs in our practice.
Can my pet be insured?
Most pets can be insured, with companies such as British Pet Insurance and Exotic Direct offering policies for exotic pets. We are not affiliated with, or endorse, any particular insurance provider.
We advise getting insurance to help cover the cost of unexpected veterinary treatment.
Before purchasing a policy, we recommend reading the terms and conditions carefully to ensure you understand the level of cover, exclusions, and any waiting periods that may apply.
How do I order a repeat prescription?
You can order a repeat prescription by submitting a form on the Contact Us page, by calling us on 02922 362 166 or by messaging us via PetsApp.
We require a minimum of 72 hours notice for all repeat prescriptions.
Do you treat injured wildlife?
Yes. Under the RCVS code of conduct, all veterinary practices are required to provide emergency first aid to injured wildlife. However, as we have limited facilities for wildlife care, we may not always be able to admit every animal.
If you bring injured wildlife to us, you will be required to sign a form confirming that you are transferring the animal into our care. Our veterinary team will assess the animal, provide any necessary emergency treatment, and determine the most appropriate next steps, which may include transfer to a specialist wildlife rehabilitation organisation where appropriate.
Unfortunately, we are unable to care for healthy, uninjured wildlife. If you are concerned about a young or seemingly abandoned wild animal that does not appear to be injured, we recommend contacting a local wildlife rehabilitation service for advice before intervening.
